Of all the rituals that are staples of traditional modern Thanksgiving, 2 of them have been a constant (not counting a visit from or to see that weird uncle that’s in ever y family) -- good food and bad football. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that was ever happy to see such players as QB Joey Harrington, QB Jon Kitna, WR Carlos Rogers or WR Mike Williams fail (although it did contribute to some silly jokes for a few family laughs such as that Charlie Batch was sacked like the turkey when mom brought it from the store). But now that the Detroit Lions are actually somewhat good – all that is about to change . . . At least that’s what it was supposed to be before Detroit QB Matt Stafford had a performance that featured 3 Interceptions and the inability to play well in 1st half as the Packer’s remain undefeated winning 27-15.
Despite early struggles of the Lions offense, the Detroit defense only gave up a single score and 86 yards of offense as the NFC North Rivals went into the second half 7-0. The Packers also had a player ejected in CB Pat Lee who was removed for hitting a Lion, CB Aaron Barry, in the face.
Late in the 3rd quarter, and after DT Ndamukong Suh was ejected from the game for stomping on a Packer, was when Green Bay began to open up the can scoring 17 points in that period. In the 4th quarter, the Lions finally, but by then, it was far too little too late.
In post game press conferences, Suh proclaimed that he would only apologize to his teammates, coaches, and fans. While he claims that the other player was holding him and prevented him from getting up, nothing excuses stomping or attacking a player who is on the ground.
Both teams still have a strong chance to make the playoffs, but both will also have strong competition in week 13 as the Packers face the New York Giants and the Lions battle the New Orleans Saints.
